About SSAE 16: www.ssae16.com

SSAE 16 is effectively replacing Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70 (SAS 70) as the primary standard for reporting on controls at service organizations.  SSAE 16 was formally issued in April 2010 with an effective date of June 15, 2011.

One of the main reasons why the change from SAS 70 to SSAE-16 has taken effect is to better align the United States standard with international standards for better consistency.

Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 16 (SSAE 16) is a widely recognized auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).  A service auditor's examination performed in accordance with SSAE 16 ("SSAE 16 Audit") is widely recognized, because it represents that a service organization has been through an in-depth audit of their control objectives and control activities, which often include controls over information technology and related processes.
